Season 10: Share Reading

The tenth season "Share Classics Reading" was held in Lecture Hall B, Lianhu Campus, at 19:00 on April 8th, 2021.  

The share speaker Wei Yishi, a junior student from Year 2018,  shared  her comprehension on Mo Yan's Big Breast and Wide Hips.  In comparison with  One Hundred  Years of  Solitude, a novel written by Colombian writer Garcia Marquez,  she  placed the emphsis on the appreication to arouse the fellow students' curiosity of reading.  Mo Yan,  a famous contemporary Chinese local native writer, who won the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature,  was certainly influenced by Marquez's fantastic realism. Mo Yan was praised by the Swedish Academy for his work which with "hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary".

These two novels are representative works of magical realism literature. Such type of novel integrates myths, legends, folk stories, religious allusions and other mysterious factors. It integrates reality and illusion skillfully, reveals a magnificent imaginary world, and  become one of  the most important classical literary works in the 20th century.

The secretary presidium and students of Year 2019 from SFL participated in this activity.
