As a key initiative to deepen university-government cooperation and serve local development, the School of Foreign Languages has always attached great importance to nurturing students’ professional practical capabilities and giving full play to universities’ social service functions. Proactively responding to the volunteer service needs of the fair, the school appointed Teacher Xu Weihang as the team leader, who led a group of students majoring in Translation and Business English as well to participate in translation volunteer services throughout the event. The student volunteers included Gao Yile, Huang Jingyi, Xiao Can, Yu Hanqing and Zhong Fangjie from Grade 2023, as well as Chen Baijun, Liao Jinghui, Yan Boxiong and Zeng Jiali from Grade 2024. By providing comprehensive professional support for the smooth running of the event, they vividly demonstrated the fruitful outcomes of university-local collaborative development.
At the opening ceremony, students from Grade 2024 took the initiative to be responsible for information registration of participating entities. With rigorous and meticulous work attitudes and efficient, standardized operations, they ensured the orderly progress of the admission process, fully embodying excellent organizational coordination skills and a strong sense of responsibility. During the fair, the volunteer team worked closely with business commissioners, taking full charge of the reception and communication with foreign guests. Endowed with fluent language proficiency and appropriate cross-cultural communication competence, they accurately met the needs of foreign guests and guaranteed the smooth implementation of all reception procedures, earning unanimous praise from both foreign participants and the event organizers.
Meanwhile, at the Import and Export Commodity Negotiation Session held at the Dazhou Workers’ Cultural Palace, students from Grade 2023 shuttled between exhibition booths and negotiation tables, providing timely and accurate interpretation services for Chinese and foreign enterprises. Leveraging their professional linguistic foundation, they built a communication bridge between supply and demand sides, effectively breaking down language barriers, facilitating in-depth business negotiations and cooperation matching between enterprises, and thus significantly improving the efficiency of the negotiations. Leading teacher Xu Weihang provided full-process follow-up guidance, helping students optimize service details in a timely manner through real-time feedback, professional tips and on-site demonstrations. This ensured the professional standards and service quality of the translation work, laying a solid professional foundation for the practice of university-government cooperation.
This commodity fair was not only a vivid practice of university-government collaboration empowering local economic development, but also a high-level, international practical platform for teachers and students. The students were able to translate the translation knowledge and business theories learned in classrooms into practical capabilities to cope with real foreign-related business scenarios. While honing their skills in language application, on-the-spot adaptability and teamwork, they deeply understood the social value of professional knowledge. Looking ahead, the SFL will continue to deepen the university-government cooperation mechanism, integrate closely with local industrial needs, and encourage teachers and students to actively participate in various professional practices and social service activities. It will promote the innovation of training modes for translation and business talents through practical education, contributing the school’s strength to enhancing the university’s social service influence and supporting the high-quality development of the Qinba region.
