SFL Holds Special Seminar on Normal University Certification Rectification and Curriculum Evaluation

To steadily advance the normal university certification rectification work for the English education program, deepen the reform of curriculum teaching, and improve the quality of talent cultivation, the SFL organized a Special Seminar on Normal University Certification Rectification and Curriculum Evaluation at 4:30 p.m. on December 22 in Office 304.  Vice Dean Liu Yanshi (in charge of the overall work), Vice Dean Zhang Jianhua and Vice Dean Li Xianwen attended the seminar, together with all teachers from the English Teaching and Research Section as well as those undertaking the teaching tasks of English major courses. Focusing on the core tasks of certification rectification and the specific norms of curriculum evaluation, the seminar clarified the key work priorities and action paths for the next stage.


First of all, Vice Dean Zhang elaborated on the relevant requirements and material preparation for curriculum evaluation work. He emphasized that curriculum evaluation is a fundamental work to ensure teaching quality and continuously improve curriculum teaching. He required all teachers to adopt a rigorous and pragmatic attitude, sort out and submit supporting materials including curriculum syllabuses, assessment documents and records of formative evaluation in accordance with the requirements for evaluation materials on schedule, so as to ensure that the evaluation data are true, complete and valid, thus providing a reliable basis for the scientific decision-making of major development.


Subsequently, Gu Yulan, Director of the English Teaching and Research Section highlighted the core task of the first phase of normal university certification rectification work — comprehensively optimizing the supporting relationship and intensity of each course to the graduation requirements. Based on the certification report, she provided feedback to the teachers on the major issues existing in the connection between the curriculum system of the English major and the graduation requirements, and put forward specific optimization principles and adjustment ideas. The seminar made it clear that this work is the cornerstone of the rectification work, aiming to ensure that the teaching objectives, contents, methods and assessment methods of each course can clearly, effectively and strongly support the achievement of graduation requirements. The completion of this work will lay a solid foundation for the comprehensive revision of curriculum syllabuses and the promotion of in-depth reform of curriculum contents and teaching modes.

In the conclusion, Vice Dean Liu reiterated the extreme importance of normal university certification rectification work for the long-term development of the School and the major. He pointed out that certification rectification is not a temporary task, but a significant opportunity for the School to strengthen connotation construction and improve the quality of normal university talent cultivation for the English major. All teachers should raise their standing, deeply understand the certification concepts of "student-centered, output-oriented and continuous improvement", and effectively integrate them into daily teaching and curriculum development. He required that the Teaching and Research Section should take this seminar as a starting point, formulate a detailed rectification schedule, clarify responsibilities, encourage the participation of all staff, and promote collaborative efforts to tackle key problems, so as to ensure that all rectification measures are fully implemented and achieve substantial results, thus pushing the development level of the English major and the quality of talent cultivation to a new height with solid rectification outcomes.


This seminar has unified the thinking, clarified the direction and assigned responsibilities, laying a solid foundation for the orderly and efficient implementation of the normal university certification rectification work for the English education program. Moving forward, the SFL will continue to take certification rectification as the key focus, deepen the reform of education and teaching, constantly improve the talent cultivation system, and make contributions to cultivating high-quality and professional English education talents.
