The SFL of SASU and Dazhou Middle School Launch Strategic Cooperation to Boost Foreign Language Education

The event was attended by Professor Liu Yanshi, Acting Dean of the SFL, SASU, Professor Li Xianwen, Vice Dean of SFL, SASU, Guo Debo, Principal of Dazhou Middle School, Pang Yong, Vice Principal, and other leaders from both institutions. Foreign teachers Hamed and Tycho from SASU were invited to deliver special lectures.
During the signing ceremony, Principal Guo Debo and Acting Dean Liu Yanshi delivered speeches respectively. The two sides reached in-depth consensus on teacher sharing, co-construction of curricula, academic exchanges and talent cultivation, and jointly signed a strategic cooperation agreement, laying a solid foundation for long-term and stable cooperation in the future.
In his lecture Failing Forward, Mr. Hamed drew on the growth experiences of renowned figures to guide students in adopting a positive attitude toward failure, conveying the idea that failure is part of the journey to success rather than an end point. Focusing on key competencies such as curiosity, resilience, reflection and self-awareness, he used English cases and situational teaching to improve students’ language application skills and explained the logical chain of “mistake-reflection-adjustment-growth”. He encouraged students to be bold in trying and unafraid of making errors in English learning, achieving an integrated improvement of linguistic competence, critical thinking and a growth mindset.
Mr. Tycho delivered a fascinating lecture entitled Stinky Tofu, Blue Cheese & Beyond: A Taste of Cultural Mix. Taking food culture as an engaging starting point, he shared iconic cuisines from China and the West. By comparing Chinese stinky tofu with blue cheese and other cross-cultural flavors, he vividly illustrated cultural collision and inclusiveness. In the lecture, Mr. Tycho contextualized the use of modal verbs in real-life situations, integrating grammar instruction into cross-cultural communication practice. He guided students to understand cultural differences with an open and inclusive mindset, foster cross-cultural identity, and effectively enhanced their language proficiency and global vision.
This event represents an important step for the SFL of SASU in serving local basic education and promoting university-local collaboration. Moving forward, the school will take this strategic partnership as an opportunity to continue leveraging its strengths in foreign language disciplines and teaching staff, further deepen and expand cooperation, help improve the quality and efficiency of English education in local middle schools, and jointly cultivate a new generation of young people with solid language skills, cross-cultural competence and well-rounded personalities.
